So do not tell anyone this but I am kind of tired of working at Andrew's. I only get to work one day a week so I barely get any hours. At my house I am expected to pay for most of my stuff so me not being able to make a lot of money is starting to become a problem. I am trying to start a savings account but I barely make any money so by the time I pay for gas and everything else I do not have much money to put into my savings account. I have tried to talk to my parents about getting another job but they refuse to let me leave. I have recently applied to IDOT and have an interview there soon. I am hoping that i get the job because I can not keep working at Andrew's. If I can get the job then I will have more money and be able to buy more things.

This is getting difficult

Well I am running out of things to talk about so I am going to do a little throwback and talk about a wedding party I had to work. It was absolutely awful. I went into work around 5 and did not leave until 2:30 in the morning. There were about 150 people at the party and they had all of the staff working. There were so many dishes pilled up it was impossible to keep up. There were stacks, on stacks, on stacks of dishes. We also had to do most of the cooks work because they were busy socializing and dancing. We could not keep any of the dish water clean because they cooked ribs and the pans were so greasy they instantly made the water nasty. We did get to eat a lot of good food though. Summary of the night, it was terrible.

Friday Night's

As soon as school gets out, I go home and get ready for work and then I leave my house around 4:20 and get to work a couple minutes before 4:30. I like working Friday's better than Saturday's because I am usually still motivated after school, Saturday I just sleep all day and then I have to wake up and go to work and it just sucks. When I go into work I clock in, like normal and start working. Friday's are usually the average busy night so they are not that bad. The average time I get out is probably around 11. Between 4:30 and 11 is usually mass chaos and everyone is rushed the entire time. After a while you get used to everyone stressing out and screaming and it does not even phase me anymore. I am usually not even in the screaming matches but it is entertaining to just sit back and watch everyone freak out for a while. Then it gets kind of scary because you realize your night is going to turn into hell. Anyways that is how Friday nights are. :)

Thursday night's

Usually I go into work around 4:30. I go in at this time because Thursday's are usually the slowest night out of all three work days. Sometimes I have to go in earlier though to shake towels, which is never fun. Then I go through and do my  normal routine. Get all the dishes soaking in the water, start the steam cleaner, and some other little things. I usually get out of work late on Thursday's because there are usually late reservations for Thursday nights. I usually clock out around 11 and then sit in the bar and talk to Andy and Patrick and anyone that is still at the restaurant. Getting up the next day after I worked Thursday night is usually painful. I go to school super tired and it's usually a awful day. That's usually everyday of school though now that I think about it.

working half a shift

Sometimes on my nights off I get called into work. This only happens when it is really busy. I usually go in around 8 and start working. It isn't too bad only working half a sift because the resturaunt is usually starting to become slower and close for the evening. So instead of having to deal with the rush of the evening, I get to go in and kind of relax and just work with someone else. When I get there they are usually getting ready to shut down the oven. Sometimes if I am lucky there will be leftover food and desserts. Cleaning up does not take too much time since there are two - three people still in the kitchen cleaning up. At the end of the night I go and talk to Andy and Patrick. Then I go home.

pharmaceutical dinners

When I go into work for pharmaceutical dinners I do not have to go in till 5. There are a lot of pros and cons when it comes to working these dinners. The good things is that you get all of the leftover food and its always amazing and I can paid to munch out so that is always a positive thing. The other good thing about these dinners is that I get an extra day to work so that means more money on pay day. The bad things about working these dinners is that you have anywhere from 30-50 people all at once. The number of people does not start to get overwhelming until there are 45+ people there to eat all at once. Another downside to these dinners is that the speaker can take a very long time to speak and we are usually waiting on them to get done speaking so we can serve the desserts. Those are the worst two things about dinners though. We usually get out around 10:30 - 11. I usually do not end up leaving until 11:30 or later because I usually get stuck talking to a bunch of doctors after I get of out work.

Saturday night

    When I went into work Saturday I was automatically rushed with things to do. Right after I clocked in I got to work. Usually we do not have people come in until around 6 but today people had reservations for 5:30. As I was beginning to set everything up I heard RJ say that someone was pulling in. This made mad kayos everywhere. After we got the early reservations seated another car pulled in, and one after that. This continued to happen all throughout the night and every time I turned around it seemed like someone else was pulling in. Finally after we had gotten all of the people served it was time to start slowly wrapping things up. By the time I started to mop and sweep it was approaching midnight. I ended up clocking out right before midnight and went into the sitting room and talking to Mrs. Patrick and Andy for about an hour. After that I went home and went to bed.

Last week at work I had to train someone. This was not the first time I had trained someone. While you are training someone you have to know how to break things down for them. I never thought that training someone to do dishes would be that difficult but it turned out to be way more difficult than it should have been. When they first got their I showed them how to work the washer and how to fill up the sinks. After that I  showed him around the bar and basement. After that I took him back into the kitchen and we started working on our own. He asked a lot of questions, which was fine but I do not think he was really getting the concept down. As the night went on he seemed to get the hang of it a little more. By the time we clocked out it was around 12 and I was ready to go home. All in all it was not a bad night.

daily routine at Andrew's

When I first get to work I clock in.After that I check to see if I need to shake towels.If I have to shake towels then I go outside with a cookie sheet and after I shake the towel I lay it on the cookie sheet. I continue to do this until all of the towels have been shook. If I do not have to deal with towels then I go over to the hand washing area and start washing out the sinks to fill them up. After I fill the three hand washing sinks up I put the cooking dishes in there to soak. Next I go to the spray wash station and fill up the dish washer and run the plates and glasses through. After you get done washing all the dishes dry them and continue to wash dishes the rest of the night. When you start to close the kitchen you wash all of the silverware and glasses. After that you sweep, clock out, and you're done!

Working at the restaurant

While working at Andrew's in the summer is fun, I also enjoy working in the kitchen. I do dishes at Andrew's all year round. People often think that washing dishes is an easy job but it is not as easy as it sounds. You have to memorize exactly where everything goes in the kitchen and have to go as fast as you can so you do not get behind. It is very easy to be in a hurry and accidentally break something, I do this often. About halfway through the night, around seven or eight, is when you start to go down hill. By that time I am usually very tired and am ready for the night to be over. After the kitchens closes that is when it is the most fun time to work because it is not as stressful and it is more relaxed. After I am totally done working and clock out I usually sit in the living room with Andy and Patrick and talk to them for about an hour on average. After that I go home and rest.

Summers at Andrews

     During the summer I spent most of my days outside working for the Patrick's. They think up of many jobs for me to do and always managed to keep me busy everyday during the summer. One of my many jobs there is to mow their grass. Mowing for them is the easiest job I have their and it is the most enjoyable because I get a good tan while mowing. Another job I do there is work in the grape vines. This may not sound like a hard job to some people but it is actually very time consuming and hard to do. I never realized how much attention grape vines need and how complex they are. I learned a lot of things about grape vines this summer like how to properly attach them to the poles and wires. There are some things you need to watch out for while working in the vines like poison ivy. Overall working at Andrew's is always fun and entertaining.
